Chemical Resistance Test

Test on resistance against chemicals:


In specien no III mortar with 20% of Silica Cement  Admixture has been dipped in 5% Sulfuric Acid making three samples 1, 2 and 3. In specien no II mortar with 10% of Silica Cement Admixture has been dipped in 5% Sulfuric Acid making three samples 1, 2 and 3. In specien no I mortar with 0% of Silica Cement Admixture has been dipped in 5% Sulfuric Acid making three samples 1, 2 and 3. The weight of all specimen were taken before dipping on sulphuric acid ( H2SO4). After that the weight of specimen was taken on every 1 week, 3 week and 6 week time. The change in weight was recorded. The below table shows the change in weight in each specimen.

We can see mass change is less on those specimen with more silica. It shows silica is better effictive to use on those concrete structure which might come on contact with chemicals.

Table below shows the average change in weight on three specimen which shows the clear picture of the strength of silica cement admixture.

The below picture shows the specimen on interval of time of 1 week 3 week and 6 week. It also shows the clear picture of corrosion due to sulphuric acid. As the figure shows mortar with Silica Cement has much less mass decrease and has proved to be strong against chemicals
